Visual Communication and Advocacy
Tasked to "create a concept for a hypothetical organization advocating for that cause, design promotional materials for a campaign from the organization, and curate branding guidelines for the organization."

I created the brand Chronically Creative meant to educate, to provide community, and to share chronic migraine symptoms through a uniquely artistic adult coloring book of data. I want to break migraine myths through a creative and playful collection of data. By bringing awareness through artistic expression, people can see their pain as beautiful.
Course Takeaways
Visual Communication and Advocacy has helped shape my knowledge of logo design and typography to make meaningful brand design. Considering how our work as designers reflects the organization's mission and goals is essential. Through this class, I refined my design skills across platforms like InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to create a cohesive final project. This course highlights the importance of advocating with our passion for design. We can change others' views within a field or invite individuals to learn about our topic. The power of design, in combination with other practices, is explored through each individual embarking on unique projects.
Advocacy Manifesto
Advocacy is more than support and awareness; it's a passion beyond your personal benefit to improve society. True advocacy is to bring awareness to an issue that affects society. It's a movement for representing underprivileged groups, minorities, and undervalued groups of society. Many times, advocacy can be directed toward people within an organization you are advocating against, or it can be directed at individuals who are unaware of the issue. Both are super impactful. Changing minds and educating people are two main parts of advocacy. Once education with facts is presented, advocacy can change to a movement of permanent change. The goal of advocacy is to change a perpetuated system. Ignorance and purposeful rejection of known facts lead to issues that foster a privileged system. Through advocacy, we can break barriers and help rewrite the system to prioritize human rights. As designers, we hold this power and should acknowledge the importance of our job.
Logo Explanation
I focused on capturing the feeling of chronic migraines within a logo design. I combined digital and hand-drawn images to create a more humanized brand design. The "C" is to mimic a coloring book. By referring to a color book, I hope it is more manageable for people to approach the brand. The forward slant of the "C" is meant to encourage movement and progress to take action. The chosen typography is a balance of seriousness and childish fun to suggest credibility in the facts and promote creativity in learning. Finally, after the previous iterations, I added a white outline to the top right logo where the words appeared lost in the scribbles.
Brand Story
I started this organization because I have personally suffered from rare symptoms of migraine, and believe it or not, I have been seeing a GI doctor for over a year. I have been looking in the wrong place, and I do not want others to suffer undiagnosed. As a creative, I have used art to express my chronic illness. I want others to find this beauty in their trauma. A coloring book is a less intimidating way to share your story. This will help educate suffering patients about unique symptoms and triggers. The goal is to collect visual data, share it with our community, and diagnose patients faster and more accurately.
Mission Statement
To educate, to provide community, and to share chronic migraine symptoms through a uniquely artistic adult coloring book of data.

Style Sheet
The final style sheet is meant to combine creativity and education. This led to a more serious deeper tone of fun colors with a combination of a rounded font. The font is slightly playful but allows for legibility to advocate accurate information.
